Black Birders Week was created by BlackAFinSTEM in 2020 in response to the Central Park bird watching incident and police brutality against Black Americans.  The commemorative week spotlights Black birders and focuses on joy experienced in the natural world, as well as the work to be done to combat racism and  promote inclusivity in nature.
